A letter to our readers

Here at 46pgs., we want to manufacture, not publish. We want to produce, not upload. Hear our story.

Why 46pgs. in the first place?

We’re not looking to belittle or aggrandize, to rate something 2 or 5 stars. Every article, every layout in 46pgs. comes with all the stars in the world built-in just for being what it is: passion transformed into words and pictures and poured all over the pages. How can someone’s passion get 2 stars while someone else’s gets 5 stars? No can do. We refuse to confine our work to grids and we allow, and indeed encourage, the unintentional flaws which always lead to some newfound perfection.

We’re looking to bring back the feeling we had when we were younger and smoother and stronger, when graphic design wasn’t as rigid, when it wasn’t corporately dictated, flat, sterile and properly aligned. We want it to be limitless in expression. New. Old. We want to create with the love and zeal of artisans, hatters, shoemakers or blacksmiths.

Our biggest wish is to incite people to think and feel, and by its very nature, that is change. We wish to motivate action. Motivate like the designers of the 90s did.

Yes, we really intend to change things. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, everyone in between, please understand that your heart and your passion is something that can never be taken away, something that should never be suppressed or restrained.

And pretty please with cream on top, do not succumb to mediocrity.

Nothing good ever came from mediocrity. Mediocrity equals stagnation, confinement of oneself to proscribed boundaries, consent for politicians and elites to turn us into a unison chorus (to paraphrase Rambo Amadeus). These are not platitudes and empty words.

Everyone working on the 46pgs. magazine, and everyone who is yet to be presented in the upcoming issues, invested their skin and bones into this effort. With a unique approach to the well-known, but also to the less-known topics from the world of art – be it music, movies, written and nonwritten word, or practically anything that comes to mind – all the writers, designers, and all the less “visible” contributors like my Flash Royal Judgenot Collective Crew (Nikica, Boban, Shonee, Zheeka and Marko) are offering their hearts to you, communicating their passion in words and pictures. We are a collective, and 46pgs. is a magazine with a graphic heart. It takes a lot of heart to work in such a collective.

The fact that 46pgs. comes only in printed form is living proof. There is no online edition of the magazine, nor will there ever be. Everyone told me that such a concept is destined to fail, because who does print-only nowadays? No one! No publisher will even talk about a print-only thing. So be it. That’s why we’re doing it on our own. And we’re doing it print-only. Because that’s our passion. To have a magazine that needs no charger, no Wi-Fi, that I can stuff in the back pocket, that I can take to the toilet without dragging a bunch of cables behind me. To sit there for an hour while leafing through live papers. To smell the perfume of ink and paper, to stack the issues upon each other and keep them on a shelf, not on a bloody hard disk. To have my kids inherit them and to have them last forever.

And we’re not backing down on that decision. Ever. Not by a single centimeter (yes bitches, we use the metric system here, take it or leave it).

It’s been a long time since we have seen some type of hardcore self-expression format like this. So, without further ado, here it is.

Eat it!

Oh, wait, just one more thing before you go. While you sit and consume our blood, sweat and tears, promise me this. Promise me that you will allow yourself to be consumed by it in turn. That you will have the courage to take it all in. That you will be brave enough to seek the truth within and have the balls to accept it… whatever it may be.

When you’re done, please tell us what you think about our passion, and show us yours.
